Three steps.

  1. Download the APKWith the button above. The browser may warn that it's an application file: that's normal.
  2. Open it and confirmAndroid asks whether you allow installing from the browser or the file manager. Accept for this file.
  3. First runLanguage, appearance and the Linux setup, once only (a few minutes and a connection). Then, your first project.

The app itself announces new versions and installs them on top without losing anything; no need to come back here.

If Android says the developer isn't verified

From late 2026, in some countries Android blocks apps from unregistered developers. Hefesto still installs through Android's advanced flow, meant for people who know what they're installing:

  1. Turn on developer options: Settings › About phone › tap “Build number” seven times.
  2. Settings › System › Developer options › “Apps from unverified developers” › turn on “Allow”. Confirm with your screen lock.
  3. Android asks whether someone is guiding or pressuring you. Confirm only if the decision is yours.
  4. Restart the phone. A 24-hour safety wait begins.
  5. After 24 hours, go back to that same screen and choose “7 days” or “Indefinitely”. To receive updates without repeating the process, choose indefinitely.
  6. Open the APK. You will see one last warning; tap “Install anyway”.

If you have a computer at hand, installing with ADB needs none of this. The same text is in the app: Settings › Help › Install and update.

Check it's the official APK.

Two values: the file's changes with every version; the certificate's is always the same. If the certificate doesn't match, don't install. Android won't let you update over a copy signed with a different certificate either.
